As international borders open back up, we’re taking a moment to turn our gaze inwards with a series of exhibitions titled Friends of DEA, showcasing the amazing talent working out of three iconic Sydney ceramic institutions.
Hitting the ground running we’re starting strong
with our friends from Kil.n.it, offering a curated selection of ceramic art from some seriously talented members working out of the experimental ceramic studio.
A not-for-profit cultural organisation, Kil.n.it was established in 2015 in the old Nurses Quarters on Glebe Point Road and is home to several emerging and established ceramic artists.
Currently managed by Joseph Turrin, Kil.n.it has since distinguished itself as a creative hub for anyone looking to get their clay fix, as well as playing an integral part in the ceramic community with contributions such as awards, exhibitions, public workshops, and studio residencies.
The impressive list of alumni to pass through their red-brick walls includes Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran, Glenn Barkley, and Madeleine Preston, household names that not only function as undeniable indicators of the importance of spaces like Kil.n.it to the Australian art world, but are markers of the standard of work produced by this creative powerhouse.
The DEA Store understands the vital role studios have in supporting and enabling artists to make beautiful work. While our space functions as a temporary home between maker and buyer, we see our FRIENDS of DEA exhibitions as opportunities to collapse those spaces and acknowledge the distinct personalities and creative output of our local institutions.
We love the ethos behind Kil.n.it, and are thrilled to be able to host a selection of their works from members such as Ebony Russell, Sassy Park, Elizabeth Lewis and Sebastian Conti, with many more to be announced!
The artists featured above in order of works:
Sebastian Conti, Sassy Park, Elizabeth Lewis, Elaine Kim, Rina Bernabei and Ebony Russell.
Please note: all works will be available to view and purchase in-store only - there will be no online release for this show.
