SASSY PARK • CERAMICIST
SYDNEY • AUSTRALIA

Sassy Park is a Sydney based visual artist and curator, known for her figurative works and vessels which play with historical ceramic traditions to respond to the contemporary.

Ceramics is a medium especially suited to memorialising the intimacies of the ordinary everyday. Sassy Park's work plays with the accepted uses of domestic ceramics and genres, including pots and figurative works.

Ideas of vulnerability and fragility are expressed through scale, intimacy, and humour. Pots speak of their own fallibility and painted figurative sculptures express an empathy through her subject matter of poignant characters. Her work draws the viewer in, to look more closely and engage with the object.

Sassy graduated from the National Art School in Sydney with a Masters degree in ceramics. Since then, her residencies include the Hill End Artist Residency and the 2020 Onslow Storrier studio residency at La Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, France.

She's won numerous awards and art prizes, and her work is represented in public collections including the Powerhouse Museum, the Art Gallery of Ballarat, Bathurst Regional Gallery and Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre.

WORK @ DEA

We first had the chance to work with Sassy as part of our Friends of DEA x Kil.n.it exhibition in February 2023. We loved her skilful, thoughtful yet playful approach, and we're now please to offer a selection of her work at DEA.
