Uda Masashi is a woodcarver based deep in the countryside in Saitama, Japan. He has a profound respect for his materials and his process is slow and considered - using small, repetitive movements of simple tools, he follows the flow and grain and allows the wood to inform the work's final expression.
Masashi's pieces are made mostly from Japanese cherry, walnut and oak, which has been responsibly and sustainably sourced. It is often stained using traditional dying techniques based on iron and vinegar.
