A lovely, organically-shaped vessel, featuring a flared lip, twisting, vertical carvings into a rounded form and finished in a wood fired glaze, with swathes of matte, burnt brown and dripping ash over gloss light grey.

Suvira McDonald is a legendary potter based in Northern NSW, whose career spans more than 30 years.

He's known for his lush, generous forms and glazes, and many pieces are wood fired in a Japanese style anagama kiln. Crackled, fire-coloured surfaces that look like the vessel is itself a glowing ember are a hallmark of McDonald's style.

Each piece is like an artwork in its own right, inviting extended contemplation and use, which rewards with a deeper connection to the vessel.
