This striking, mid-sized work is exemplary of Suvira's wood-firing mastery - finished with a base of dark grey/green interspersed with exposed swathes of burnt orange, all covered in dripping, melted ash - a dramatic and ever-changing landscape resulting from a three day wood-firing.

Suvira McDonald is a legendary potter based in Northern NSW, whose career spans more than 30 years.

He's known for his lush, generous forms and glazes, and many pieces are wood fired in a Japanese style anagama kiln. Crackled, fire-coloured surfaces that look like the vessel is itself a glowing ember are a hallmark of McDonald's style.

Each piece is like an artwork in its own right, inviting extended contemplation and use, which rewards with a deeper connection to the vessel.
