Tall, medium-sized, rectangular bottle vase by Suvira McDonald from April 2026.
In this work (and its companion piece), Suvira plays with his traditional bottle vase shape, producing a vessel whose tall, enclosed, rectangular form sports two, organic "bottlenecks".
It's finished with a smooth base of soft green/grey, overlaid with dramatic, overlapping swathes of crackled glaze in dark brown, with areas of dripping, melted ash - a dramatic and ever-changing surface resulting from a three day wood-firing.
This work functions both as a vase and as a striking, stand-alone sculptural piece.
We have two, complimentary, angular bottle vases from this series - one wide, one tall. While they're available individually, the artist would prefer them to form a pair, so we have a special price if both are purchased.

Suvira McDonald is a legendary potter based in Northern NSW, whose career spans more than 30 years.
He's known for his lush, generous forms and glazes, and many pieces are wood fired in a Japanese style anagama kiln. Crackled, fire-coloured surfaces that look like the vessel is itself a glowing ember are a hallmark of McDonald's style.
Each piece is like an artwork in its own right, inviting extended contemplation and use, which rewards with a deeper connection to the vessel.
