This sweetly proportioned vessel features four, gently sloping angular sides, topped with a small angular neck, then finished with a dark, textured, wood-fired glaze on the body with drips of green, melted ash at the top.

Suvira McDonald is a legendary potter based in Northern NSW, whose career spans more than 30 years.

He's known for his lush, generous forms and glazes, and many pieces are wood fired in a Japanese style anagama kiln. Crackled, fire-coloured surfaces that look like the vessel is itself a glowing ember are a hallmark of McDonald's style.

Each piece is like an artwork in its own right, inviting extended contemplation and use, which rewards with a deeper connection to the vessel.
