"Cloudy Mountain Range" #2 - ceramic sculpture by Suvira McDonald.
Depicting a distant mountain range, this sublime piece manages to convey both power and tenderness.
Suvira uses his mastery of firing and glazing to full effect in this piece, with shino and dry glazes melting onto the cloud covered peaks, and exposed, burnt orange and crackled white raku clay forming the mountain base.
It also works equally well when viewed from either side.
One of three similar works, it's beautiful on its own or stunning as a set.

Suvira McDonald is a legendary potter based in Northern NSW, whose career spans more than 30 years.
He's known for his lush, generous forms and glazes, and many pieces are wood fired in a Japanese style anagama kiln. Crackled, fire-coloured surfaces that look like the vessel is itself a glowing ember are a hallmark of McDonald's style.
Each piece is like an artwork in its own right, inviting extended contemplation and use, which rewards with a deeper connection to the vessel.
