The Sola Prism Mobile is a glass prism, encased in a transparent cube of acrylic resin and suspended from an invisible string.

Glass prisms are used as a part of a projector and play the role of separating the irradiated light into RGB and recombining it. Due to the high level of quality required, prisms manufactured for this purpose are often discarded, due to chips and scratches.

However the Sola Prism Mobile gives new life to these unwanted prisms as an interior decoration that can be hung and appreciated. Unlike conventional prisms that are placed and displayed, the mobile prisms sway and rotate when hung, allowing the viewer to enjoy the graphics of light in motion.

Transparent string is used for the hanging string and we recommend hanging them in a well-ventilated place or near a window to appreciate the colours they throw as they gently sway in the breeze.

The Sola Philosophy

3.8 billion years have passed since the first single life began on Earth. Later, this life evolved into flowers, fruit and seeds, maintained in life cycles that continued for millions upon millions of generations.

By observing a small plant carefully, we are able to glimpse a more perfect world. We express the name “Sola” with the Chinese kanji 宙, which means “universe.”  This kanji explains everything we know and don’t know, including time and space, with a single character. Sola also has another meaning: “blue sky.” An imaginary world spreads out like the sky before us.
