About Bizen "wild porcelain"
Bizenware is traditionally made only with the dark brown clay of the Bizen area. However Kazuya is currently pioneering a new Bizen style featuring porcelain clay. On the edge of Bizen is the Tsuchihashi porcelain mine, whose raw material is normally crushed and highly processed for both industrial ceramics and refined tableware. However Kazuya is now taking the same raw materials and processing them by hand in the traditional Bizen way, producing a unique, textured white clay he’s calling Bizen "wild porcelain”.

Kazuya Ishida
was born into a family of potters in Bizen, Japan, where he still works and lives. While he's a master at the traditional unglazed, high-fired, Bizen style, he brings energy, creativity and restless experimentation to every aspect of his making - producing work that is at once fresh and exciting while still honouring its traditional roots.

Ishida is also a born teacher and generously shares his immense knowledge around the world - regularly hosting international workshops on every aspect of throwing, firing and kiln building.
