 an exhibition of ceramics by
 Timna Taylor

It is with sheer DELIGHT we present our latest collaboration as part of an ongoing, offsite exhibition program we call DEApartment.

Wetlands is an exhibition of over 200 works by Timna Taylor, showing at the delightful upstairs gallery room at Native Drops Artisan Cellar, Surry Hills.

In respect to the precious landscape that inspired these works, we are donating 10% of the profits from this exhibition to Bush Heritage Australia.

Welcome to WETLANDS

Take a journey with Timna Taylor through the Australian landscape, discovering watering holes, billabongs, springs, lakes and waterfalls in amongst the fragrant eucalypts, grasses, and rivers of deep northwestern NSW.

Timna Taylor’s history as a painter is evident in every vessel. Each piece speaks of Australian native flora and fauna, the colours of a beetle’s wing, the song of a Fairywren, the snap of a twig underfoot while you navigate pathways on your walk through the trees to the sea.

Take a magical moment to consider the beauty in each piece from the smallest of condiment dishes, beakers, mugs, bowls to her enormous and monumental hand built vases. Very much the potter’s potter, one can see why she has such a following with a style that is so refined yet so earthy at the same time.

About TIMNA TAYLOR

Timna is a highly collectible Australian ceramicist residing in Northern NSW.

Her journey as an artist started with painting, so it's no surprise that Timna brings a painterly eye to ceramics - her glazes layered and re-fired many times to build a lush and nuanced palette.

Her work draws inspiration from the Australian landscape - the subtle and complex interplay of light and shadow that filters through the bush that surrounds her is reflected in each lovingly constructed piece.

Soft like watercolour, like looking over a lake on a drizzly day, or bold and graphic like an abstract painting, Timna works in repeat patterns but no outcome is ever the same.

Her glazes hover and shimmer before the eye, like the chirruping of cicadas made real onto the surfaces of her vessels.

Her preferred medium is raku, and she has been influenced by Shoji Hamada, one of the three proponents of the Japanese Folk Art movement last century (along with Kawai Kanjiro and Bernard Leach).

Timna follows the belief that art can be held in the hands - that the quest for beauty is balancing to the soul. We certainly feel strong emotions gazing at Timna Taylor works. It’s not surprising she has such a strong and dedicated following.
