YUKO KAN • CERAMICIST
GIFU • JAPAN

Yuko Kan is a Japanese artist and ceramicist who lives and works amongst the gentle, rolling hills of Gifu, Japan.

Born in Kyoto, Kan earned a masters degree from Tama Art University, where she began her artistic journey working with woodblock printing. This naturally led her to wood sculpting and she used both printing and carving and even puppet making to define her creative language and landscape.

In 2020 she moved to Gifu Prefecture - a thriving centre for ceramics with a history stretching back over 1000 years - where she added ceramic sculpture to her unique creative practice. Her work can be found in numerous solo and group shows across Japan and now, for the first time, in Australia as well.

All of Kan’s figures invoke a world that belongs in the clouds - sending love and beauty outwards, just like rays of sunshine. Faces, shapes, trees, birds and mermaids hover gently and invite you to contemplate their divine being.

I can’t imagine anyone not wanting to own one of these special creations - so let Yuko Kan’s work open the doors to beauty and step inside - it’s warm and the sun shines forever.

We’re long time fans, having fallen in love with her work several years ago, so we were honored and excited to finally visit Yuko in her home and workshop early in 2025. We spent a magical morning exploring her work space, admiring her creative expression across different mediums and selecting our favourite ceramic pieces.

We are so very thrilled to now offer the work of Yuko Kan in Australia.
