KYLE MURRELL • PAINTER
SYDNEY • AUSTRALIA

Kyle Murrell is a painter based in Sydney, Australia.

He relies on drawing as a means of exploration and regeneration. It sustains his practice by playing multiple roles in his work; as a notion of ideas, as a working drawing and developing a sequence of thoughts. Through an inexhaustible and repetitious process, he deconstructs and obscures the subject to allow the rhythm of line and mark making to activate and penetrate space. This dissolution and re-invention of forms resolves the contest between meaning and structure through their oscillation, fusion and sometimes juxtaposition.

He graduated from the National Art School with Honours in 2013, receiving the Clithroe Honours Scholarship and was the winner of the John Olsen prize for figure drawing and the Elioth Gruner Prize for landscape painting through the Art Gallery of NSW.

He maintains a steady practice exhibiting regularly in group and solo shows in Sydney and is represented in public collections including The National Art School, St Vincents Hospital and Gadens Lawyers (Singapore).
