Vintage Japanese figure of a seated osumōsan (sumo wrestler), handmade using the traditional hariko (paper craft) technique by artist Fusa Miyauchi.

This charming figure comes packaged in its original box.

In Japanese, hariko means paper craft - a papier-mache technique thought to have come from China around the Muromachi period. It spread around Japan and has been used for making figurines and folk toys.

Fusa Miyauchi was a doll artist of the Meji-Showa period and was declared a living national treasure in her lifetime.
