Large, five-sided vessel by Suvira McDonald from April 2026.

A bravura piece from a master potter, this tall, powerful work has an irregular, five-sided form, featuring swathes of burnt orange covered in dripping, melted ash - a dramatic and ever-changing finish resulting from a three day wood-firing.

This work functions both as a vase, but equally well as a striking, stand-alone sculptural piece.

We have two large angular vessels from this series - sold individually but well matched as a pair.

Suvira McDonald is a legendary potter based in Northern NSW, whose career spans more than 30 years.

He's known for his lush, generous forms and glazes, and many pieces are wood fired in a Japanese style anagama kiln. Crackled, fire-coloured surfaces that look like the vessel is itself a glowing ember are a hallmark of McDonald's style.

Each piece is like an artwork in its own right, inviting extended contemplation and use, which rewards with a deeper connection to the vessel.
