The "Dougu" ("tool" in Japanese) board embodies functional simplicity.
This 40cm x 20cm classic rectangular shou sugi ban cutting board is the daily workhorse - versatile enough for any task, sized perfectly for standard counters, and shaped traditionally for a reason: this design just works. No specialized use case, no niche purpose.
The "Dougu" is your go-to board for everything from morning smoothie prep to dinner vegetables to weekend charcuterie. It's the board you reach for every single day.
Why the classic rectangle wins: The 40cm x 20cm rectangle is the Goldilocks size—generous enough for serious prep, compact enough for easy handling and storage. This is what a cutting board should be: reliable, versatile, and built to last a lifetime.
The "Dougu" is available in Classic or Prep versions.

about ARTSN boards
While other cutting boards absorb stains, harbour odours and deteriorate over time, our fire-charred surface creates protection that conventional boards simply cannot match.
ARTSN boards are made of Teakwood, charred and finished with shou sugi ban, then treated with food grade mineral oil, hard wax, beeswax and carnauba wax blend.
shou sugi ban (or yakisugi) is a 300-year-old, traditional Japanese wood preservation technique, which involves carefully charring the surface of wood to enhance its durability and beauty.
When fire meets wood at precisely controlled temperatures, something remarkable happens. The surface transforms into carbon, creating a naturally water-repellent layer where liquids bead up rather than soak in.
The heat also raises and pronounces the wood's grain pattern, producing a textured landscape that naturally camouflages the everyday knife marks that would be obvious on smooth boards.

Beyond aesthetics, the carbon surface provides practical benefits:
- liquid beads and rolls off instead of absorbing into the wood
- pronounced grain texture blends knife marks into the pattern
- natural variations mean your board only becomes more characterful with use
- no chemical sealers - just fire-transformed wood and natural oils
