Drawing upon the ancient and evolving tradition of Japanese Shigaraki-ware, Tetsuya Kowari implements contemporary mark-making and intuitive glazing to create energetic yet functional forms.
His platters evoke rocky landscapes and moss-covered caves, from deep orange-bronze to glassy greens, sparkling silvers, and moments of pale blue. Shifting surfaces and varied textures give a sense of movement and liveliness, as though frozen amid a moment of great transformation.
Kowari’s Shigaraki platters are truly stunning pieces that are as much at home in the kitchen table as they are displayed upright on a shelf.
Nb. this is a hand made piece and measurements are approximate.
