A masterpiece by Testuya Kowari, this formidable vase is exemplary of Kowari’s signature gestural mark-making and oribe glazing.
Twisting and organic, with a form reminiscent of a large seashell, its deep cut facets create directional lines that maintain a sense of momentum contrary to its solid foundation.
Rich glassy greens pool in rivulets and flow over precipices, while bright orange flashing punctuated by painterly iron marks create depth and dimension. Angular yet animated, this work is in constant motion as the light moves across its many surfaces.
