Sturt Gallery Residency
In mid 2022, Kazuya Ishida did a residency at the storied Sturt Gallery, Mittagong, where he held workshops as well as produced new work using their wood-fired anagama and salt kilns. This series presents the remaining work from that time, which is imbued with a magical fusion of Kazuya's deep knowledge and Japanese technique, with the special qualities of the local Australian clay, wood and historical hand-built kilns of Sturt.

Kazuya Ishida
was born into a family of potters in Bizen, Japan, where he still works and lives. He's a master at the traditional unglazed high temperature-fired bizen-style, and generously shares his knowledge around the world teaching kiln building, firing and pottery making.
