Handmade chess set by sensational scribbler James Gulliver Hancock.
Pieces crafted from BRT clay and porcelain, housed in a playing board and case featuring a magnetic closure, hand made by the artist himself!
Each piece is beautifully and thoughtfully handcrafted to give hours of consternation (and pleasure) to the chess fan in your life.
James grew up in Sydney, Australia, in kindergarten he remembers devising the most complex image he could think of, refusing to move on to any other activity, instead detailing a complex drawing of a city of houses including every detail, every person, and every spider web between every house. He continues to make drawing the focus of his day and loves to make work that speaks to a wide range of people. James’ current ceramic works take his playful attitude to making and bring them into the home, inspiring small moments of everyday delight.
James has exhibited his work in Europe, Japan, America, and S.E Asia. Some major projects in a diverse career include creating a large scale mosaic in a train station for the MTA in New York, designing an interactive children’s exhibition based on books with Lonely Planet, as well as many large scale mural works for many major councils, brand stores and office fit outs including Target, Ebay, Woolworths and Kelloggs.
